Underfell - Muffet: How I Would Portray Her

The thing is, I don't like the way most people design Underfell's version of Muffet. Not only are they inconsistent, but the few that are half-decently designed pretty much only make her look like a sociopathic version of her normal self. I, however, would see her as a more gothic looking character. Since she's just a kid, her normal look in the canon game is reminiscent of a little girl, pretending to have a tea party. She's also a girl scout in Undertale, apparently. I mean, selling goods, often at ridiculous prices, to try and donate to a greater cause? Seems pretty much like that.

Anyway, in the Underfell story, I'd have Muffet still trying to sell treats to people, but instead to save all spiders from the monsters, as they get stomped on a regular basis. She'd also be an incredibly depressed character, with most spiders she knows not being known for more than a week before being squashed. She dresses in some dark clothing, and her eyes got more sunken in, the more she drank extra amounts of tea. Yes, tea, which has caffeine in it, can have alcohol-like effects on spiders. So, basically, she's an underage alcoholic, trying to relieve stress of all the harshness with an almost daily dosage of caffeine.

Concerning her relations to Frisk, I'd give her a more prominent role for a change, since in the actual game, she was thrown in as one of the last few elements in Undertale before release. For starters, I imagine she'd react based on events prior. For instance, if Frisk killed no one, she'd question if Alphys, who told her that Frisk was evil, was telling the truth, asking Frisk to prove it, and sparing them right off the bat. Frisk has the opportunity to check her, to which this info box would pop up:

*10 HP  0 ATK  5 DEF

*If she invites you to her parlor, PLEASE STAY!

(alternative "genocide" description)

*Just put her out of her misery.

If Frisk bought a donut prior to meeting Muffet, she'd say she knew Alphys was lying. If Frisk has killed anyone, she will fight them, until she finds good in them, or she's killed. If killed after sparing Frisk, she'll become sad, regretting her choice of sparing them. She starts to cry, before turning to dust. In a genocide route, she would do basically the same thing, but for a different reason. She refuses to attack Frisk, because they killed everyone up to this point. She knows she stands no chance, so she'll just stand there and take it. If spared, she's relieved, but also excited, because she survived a relentless killer, AND made friends with them. But, since it's genocide, she takes the blow, and says she knew it was coming. As much as she was sobbing, she's at least glad this life of constant suffering is finally ending.

OKAY, DEPRESSING STUFF OUT OF THE WAY. After being spared, she'd invite Frisk to her home. If Frisk stops by there, Flowey will question whether this hangout is a good idea. Once Frisk interacts with her, Muffet will take it as an agreement to hang out. The home is really messy, but she's confident she can make a friend that's not a spider who will be squashed the next day. She has a small table with a tea set and some plushes lying on a few of the provided chairs. If Frisk inspects any of the plushes, Muffet tells them that they're "basically all the friends I had and could hang out with. Until now, anyway." If interacted with, she'll ask if Frisk is ready to start the hang-out. When accepted, she excitedely grabs Frisk's hand, and guides them back to the table, and having them sit down, before she herself does, then starts asking (spamming) them a series of unanswerable questions, such as, "Where were you born? What's your favorite color? What's your favorite food? Do you think spiders are cool? What kind of music do you listen to? Can you fly- *cough* *cough*" After a pause, she'll start over, saying, "Okay...I'll let you ask a question."

I really don't feel like writing options here. Sorry.

Anyway, Muffet then decides to get some refreshments for Frisk, including tea. As she shares conversations with them, she keeps drinking her cup. As she continues, she starts getting more......stuttery? She then starts making the conversation more personal to her life, talking about stuff she wouldn't dare bring up earlier. As she kept going, she drank more and more tea. Soon enough, her tea pot was empty. "Oh. It's. Empty? Don't worry, I'll...*burp*...get some more..." She makes her way to the counter, but is really slow about it, even seemingly wobbly. Suddenly, she falls over, and passes out. Flowey states, "Clearly, she had way too much tea."

When Frisk interacts with her, it's made clear she's fast asleep.

*She's not getting back up anytime soon.

When she is asleep, Frisk can enter a door she previously refused to let them go through, worried they may "defile" what is in there. Once they do enter, they navigate a long hallway, with individual plaques. Each plaque reads like "Friend #1. Lasted two weeks." "Friend #2. Lasted one week." "Friend #30. Lasted one month." So on, so forth, with each date varying randomly. Once Frisk reaches the end of the hall, they see a coffin, with a framed picture of canon Muffet's pet spider above, and a plaque labelled "Cupcake. Lasted one year." Yes, the hall is actually catacombs, and Muffet gave each spider killed in the Underground their own burial. Flowey would then comment,

"...Why can't I feel anything for her?"

Revisiting her place later, Frisk will find Muffet again, wide awake, but lying on the couch, with an ice pack on her head.

"My head...It hurts so much... Did I leave the stove on?"

She'll then notice Frisk standing next to her.

"Oh, it's you! Sorry for dozing off on you...I feel like so much of a loser..." Then this option will appear.

>Comfort her, >Do not

If Frisk comforts her, she'll ask "Really?" She'll then spring up, giving them a strong hug, and happily spinning around while holding them. "Thank you for being such a good friend! And alive!" She'll then go back to lying on the couch. "Now I just need to rest..."

If Frisk doesn't comfort her...

"I don't blame you..."

Of course, Frisk will still have the option to comfort her even after saying no. The option will repeat, minus her prior dialogue.

And that's about all I could think of for interactions. In fact, that's about all I could think of for the entirety of the character. Never the less, I'm quite proud of this portrayal, and hope it gets some decent recognition in the community.

Oh yeah baby im back here again! I never really interacted with the UT multiverse, esp the big ones, bc it never seemed to change more than the surface, but this? This makes underfell so much more interesting singlehandedly. It would be super awesome if you came back and fleshed out some of those dialogue options, but its excellent as is!
